How to use Cloth Diapers
If you are new to cloth diapers you are probably thinking, "How do I use cloth diapers?" The words cloth diapers usually conjure up images of flat squares of cotton that one must fold and pin with big safety pins and cover with rubber pants. And lets not get started on what we imagine the washing routine is like. Cloth diapers seem so far removed from modern life, one almost feels like taking them to the nearest stream and beating them on the rocks! I am here to tell you that this archaic image of cloth diapers is long gone! The diapers of today are a whole new species!
This new world still leaves people wondering how to use cloth diapers. If you are new to the world of cloth diapers, you may want a crash course in the basics before getting into the nitty gritty.
You are probably still wondering, "How do I use cloth diapers?" Cloth diapers are actually just as convenient as disposable diapers now.
The easiest option, all-in-ones, only require you to snap or velcro the diaper on. Pocket diapers are next easiest to use. All you need is an insert to stuff the pocket as an absorbent layer and then snapped or velcroed on to the baby. Next is Fitted Diapers. Simply snap or velcro the diaper on, and then cover the diaper with a diaper cover or wool soaker. Least easy to use, although certainly not hard, are prefolds and flat diapers. Prefolds and flat diapers are a wonderful option when you are on a budget, or when you want diapers that will dry quickly on a line. Prefolds are a little trickier and require folding. There are quite a few ways to fold prefold diapers. Here are links to a few diaper folding methods.
